Default Throwing jigs

I made up my mind. I am going to throw a jig this year. I have only thrown a jig three times. I have no confidence in one but, I know they catch fish. That being said, What colors and styles work bets for you?

I like Black and Blue and Green Pumpkin, the styles depend on what I am fishing , brush, docks ,grass ,rocks ect. I make jigs so I guess what I sell the most works the best. That would be a TS-2 JIG 3/8 oz in any type of Green Pumpkin. If you want to get good at jig fishing make sure that is the only lure you have in your boat and fish it all day.

Joe have John at Truesouth tie you some up.He's doing all my work now. Get some of the Mafia Craw color from him. I've caught more fish on Norman on that color than any other three colors combined the last couple of years. My son also hammers the smallies out in Tenn on that color too. I use a Yamamoto twin tail in 157,180 or 297 most of the time. He also ties me a combo of Blue Crab and Melon Craw that would work in the clear water up there. I fish them around the rocky places I showed you on Norman and have no problem getting bites. Last winter I blew out my right elbow and could not throw with my right arm, so I did not get a spinning rod out of the rod locker all year.I flipped a jig or an 8 inch worm all year, and all though I didn't catch all the numbers but man did I catch the size. I'll let you in on a little secret. The rage in jigs now are the finesse cut jigs, get some 1/2 or 3/4 oz football headjigs and trim the skirts like the finesse ones and they work great in the deep water on rocks and on windy days. If you had any muddy banks up there I'ld tell you to get some jigs in "Skippy" color, but I don't think you have any mud banks up there. It works good in the back of that creek I put you in the last time you were down here. You need to get down here this spring its going to be good. And if you tell any of these jokers on here where those places are on Norman I'm coming to PA after you.

I recommend a finesse type jig with a GY fat baby craw trailer, you will get bites and some are good ones on this set-up. spots/sm/lm will hit it.

Have caught 12" spots and 4lb largemouths on this set-up

Fav rod is a 7' IMX mhvy with 12lb yo-zuri hybrid line.

I use a 7' med. hvy fast St. Croix Legend Elite for texas rigging. I am sure this should work for pitchin' a jig as well.

True South "Fatback" 1/2oz.

I throw this jig 99% of the time in any water color. I adjust the trailer darker to lighter..stained to clear.
Jig fishing is about placement, patience and being aware. Learn to skip it, learn you are not going to have 30 bites a day and learn to watch your line...Nothing is better than making a nice skip under a dock, and seeing that line never stop moving :) gl

I have more confidence in a jig than any other lure out there. I like to throw alot of finesse jigs and a shaky-head is my next go to bait. Good luck with it. Once you build your confidence with it... it will be hard to put down. I also like to drag a 1/2 oz. or 3/4 oz. football head anywhere you would normally throw a carolina rig.
